How to keep your mouth healthy on vacation

Summer is here, and with summer brings vacation. When you're in vacation mode, it's easy to slip out of your normal routines, but it's just as important to keep up with your oral hygiene on vacation as it is while you're at home. Check out these tips to enjoy your vacation while keeping your mouth healthy.

Pack your toiletries

This may seem like a given, but it's common to overlook packing every day toiletry essentials. Instead of packing your every day toothbrush, why not grab a travel size toothbrush, paste, mouthwash, and floss to put in your toiletry bag? That way, you're not taking up precious suitcase space, and you can even leave them behind because when you come home, all your regulars will still be there.

Sunscreen

It can be easy to overlook sunscreening important parts of your body - like your lips! Choose a sunscreen or chapstick with sunscreen in it to pack with your toiletries and in your purse so you can easily remember to protect your lips every day.

Stick to a routine

Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you need to get out of a routine. Keep oral hygiene at top of mind during your vacation, brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash twice a day. Keep it out on the vanity for a simple daily and nightly reminder.

Monitor sugar intake

Vacation diets often include more sugary drinks, sweets, and treats than you're used to consuming at home. Be mindful of the foods and drinks you're eating on vacation, and try to alternate your sugary drinks with water. You can also use a straw to keep the sugar away from your teeth.

See your dentist

It's a good idea to see your dentist before or after you go on vacation, and keep up with your regular checkups.

Lasting thoughts

Have a great vacation and prepare to continue your good oral hygiene routine for the whole family while you're away. Keep your dentist's phone number on hand for any emergency questions or issues you may have. All it takes is a little planning and prep to keep your mouth nice and healthy, wherever you are.
